Naruto Card Game: Everything We Know So Far (Rules, Cards, Release Date)

Bandai's Naruto Card Game: full gameplay breakdown, the first card in hand, the $1,500 Gen Con promo, booth art, and every confirmed date. Updated July 31, 2026.

Bandai's NARUTO CARD GAME just played its first real hand. Gen Con 2026 gave us the gameplay, the first physical card, the booth art and a promo market that hit $1,500 in three days — for a card that was given away free, eleven months before the game releases.

Here is everything that is actually known, in one place, updated July 31, 2026.

The short version

  • Release: Summer 2027, worldwide, six languages
  • How it plays: Leader card + 51-card deck + 5 Chakra + 1 Summon; drop the opponent Leader's Life to zero
  • First card: CP-001 Chakra Card, Gen Con 2026 exclusive, marked NOT FOR SALE
  • Promo market: 25 single-card listings, $930–$2,025, median $1,500
  • Next news: NYCC October 2026, then the big product drop December 2026
  • Products or prices: none announced. Anyone quoting booster prices is guessing.

How does the Naruto Card Game play?

The core loop is confirmed by Bandai. Each player builds around a Leader card with a deck of 51 cards, 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card, fields Characters in the Leader's color, and wins by cutting the opponent Leader's Life to zero. Five card types: Leader, Character, EX Character, Chakra and Summon. Characters unleash Jutsu abilities paid for with Chakra. It covers NARUTO, Shippuden and BORUTO.

Everything more detailed than that comes from players who sat down at the Gen Con demo tables — and there is a reason it is second-hand. Bandai's own event page bans "photography, video recording, or audio recording" inside the tutorial room and states demo decks cannot be taken home. The rules going round the internet were reconstructed from memory.

The most complete attempt is this fan-made explainer, which is upfront about what it is:

What it reports, and what we would actually bet on:

Mechanic What demo players report Confidence
Leader Life Starts at 15 (Naruto and Sasuke leaders both) Reported
Opening hand 5 cards; only the player going second may mulligan Reported
Draw Player 1 draws 1 at start, player 2 draws 2; then 2 per turn Reported
Chakra Spent by turning cards face-down; does not auto-refill Confirmed on the card itself
Recovering Chakra Rest your Leader — giving up its attack that turn Reported
Character plays One normal play per turn; EX Characters via effects Reported
Combat Characters have two attack values — one vs Leaders, one vs rested Characters — plus HP Reported
Response window Chain/stack-style, resolves backward, "closer to Yu-Gi-Oh! than One Piece" Reported

The Chakra row is the interesting one. CP-001's own printed rules text reads "When using Chakra, turn this card face-down." — so the face-down resource mechanic is confirmed by the physical artifact, whatever else turns out to be wrong.

Two things worth flagging before you plan a deck around any of this. The explainer's own comment thread disagrees about whether "support" is a card type or an ability, and the post contains at least one typo. And there is an unresolved ambiguity in Bandai's own wording: it says "a deck of 51 cards, 5 Chakra cards, and 1 Summon card", which the fan explainer reads as 1 Leader + 50 Characters. Whether the Leader sits inside or outside that 51 has not been clarified.

Early read on the game: a Leader-and-Life engine with color identity is the One Piece Card Game's proven chassis, but the manual Chakra economy and the response window pull it toward Yu-Gi-Oh!'s interaction density. If that holds, it will be the most interactive game Bandai has shipped in this family.

What is the CP-001 Gen Con promo card?

The first physical NARUTO CARD GAME card anyone has held.

Reading the card itself: a Chakra Card numbered CP-001, Naruto and Sasuke mid-clash, illustrated by Touga Itokazu, "BANDAI MADE IN JAPAN", and — printed right on it — NOT FOR SALE.

It was not handed to everyone who walked past. Per Bandai, the gift set went to tutorial-session attendees, and the card itself was "restricted to TCG+ channel registrants who complete post-session survey", capped at one prize per person and one tutorial session per person for the entire convention. Bandai has published no print run, so every population number circulating is a guess.

The full gift set: the CP-001 card, a backpack, a logo sticker, and a playmat purchase voucher.

What is the Gen Con promo selling for?

We pulled every live eBay listing on July 31, 2026 — 28 of them. The eye-watering numbers making the rounds are not single cards:

Listing type Count Ask range
Single card 25 $930 – $3,500 · median $1,500
Card bundled with backpack and/or mat 2 $2,900 and $10,000
Three-card lot 1 $40,000

Strip the bundles and it is tighter than the screenshots suggest: 24 of 25 singles sit between $930 and $2,025, clustering at $1,500.

Two caveats that matter more than the numbers. These are asks, not sales — no verified completed sales exist for this card yet, so nothing here is a market value. And listing an ask costs nothing: one seller listing three copies at $40,000 moves the "highest price" headline without anyone paying a cent.

Two traps in the resale listings

The "playmat" is not a playmat. Several bundles advertise the promo "with play mat" at a heavy premium. What the gift set actually contains is a "NARUTO CARD GAME Official Playmat — Arriving in 2027 Purchase Voucher": the right to buy the mat for $35 plus tax at the Bandai booth, and per Bandai the ticket is "valid only on the day of the attended event". Bought from a reseller after Gen Con, it redeems for nothing.

Check which Naruto game the listing means. Several listings title this card "Naruto CCG" and one dates it "English 2004". Bandai ran a completely different Naruto CCG from 2006 to 2013 — separate product, separate nostalgia market. We untangle all four Naruto card products in our 2026 Naruto card game guide.

What does the art look like?

Bandai's booth ran ten large panels, and they are the best look yet at the game's illustration direction: Sasuke in the rain, Naruto in the Nine-Tails cloak, Itachi under a red moon, Hinata's Gentle Fist, Minato mid-Rasengan, Gamabunta, Konan's paper jutsu, and a Konoha night-market scene.

Nobody has confirmed these are card art — but Bandai has promised original illustrations across the franchise, and booth art becoming card art is a well-worn pattern. Sample Naruto and Sasuke cards were also passed round the floor, with collectors filming the texturing on the alt-art treatments.

December is the date to circle. That is when this stops being a vibes market and becomes a product with a price.

Should you be buying in now?

There is nothing to buy. No boosters, no decks, no prices — the only Naruto Card Game cards in existence are convention promos.

That leaves CP-001, and it is genuinely two things at once: a gated, publisher-marked, first-ever card for one of the biggest franchises in anime, and a free convention giveaway being priced by people with no product to compare it against, eleven months before launch, with zero sold history. Both are true. Anyone telling you which one wins is guessing, and the honest position is that the first real price signal arrives when the game does.

What we would watch instead of the asks: whether any of these listings actually sell, and at what. That number does not exist yet.

Where this data comes from

Product, event and gameplay facts come from Bandai's official Gen Con 2026 event page and its July 29, 2026 press release. Card details are read directly from photographs of the card. The market snapshot is 28 live eBay listings observed on July 31, 2026, classified by hand into single cards, bundles and multi-card lots; no verified completed sales were available. Gameplay rows marked "reported" come from a community explainer built from demo footage, and are labelled as such throughout.

Cardlogs tracks One Piece, Dragon Ball, Riftbound and vintage Pokémon — live TCGplayer, Cardmarket and eBay-sold prices, graded populations and set-level EV, free on web, iOS and Android. The Naruto Card Game is on our roadmap for its launch; it cannot be tracked until it has a market. When that happens, promos like CP-001 get the thing they lack today — a sold-price history instead of an asking price. This page will be updated at each reveal beat; the next one is New York Comic Con in October. Frequently asked questions

When does the Naruto Card Game come out?

Summer 2027, worldwide and simultaneous, in English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Bandai narrowed the window at its July 29, 2026 reveal. Before then: New York Comic Con in October 2026, a major information drop in December 2026, and in-store tutorial sessions from January 2027.

How do you play the Naruto Card Game?

You build around a Leader card with a deck of 51 cards, 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card, field Characters in your Leader's color, and win by reducing the opponent's Leader's Life to zero. Characters use Jutsu abilities paid for with Chakra, and Chakra is spent by turning cards face-down. Demo players report Leader Life starting at 15.

What is the Naruto Gen Con promo card?

CP-001 "Chakra Card -Gen Con 2026 Ver.-", the first physical Naruto Card Game card. It shows Naruto and Sasuke, was illustrated by Touga Itokazu, is printed in Japan and is marked NOT FOR SALE. It was free to tutorial-session participants who were TCG+ registrants and completed a survey — one per person.

How much is the Naruto Gen Con promo worth?

No verified sales exist yet. On July 31, 2026 there were 28 live eBay listings: 25 single cards with a median ask of $1,500 (24 of them $930–$2,025), plus bundles at $2,900 and $10,000 and a three-card lot at $40,000. Those are asking prices on a three-day-old card, not values.

Is the Naruto Card Game the same as Kayou Naruto cards?

No. Bandai's Naruto Card Game is a competitive two-player TCG launching Summer 2027. Kayou Naruto cards are Chinese collectible cards with no battle game, on US shelves since October 2025. There is also Naruto Mythos in Europe and a discontinued 2006–2013 Bandai CCG — four different products, one search term.

Should I buy Naruto Card Game cards now?

There is nothing retail to buy — no boosters, decks or prices have been announced, and none are expected before the December 2026 information drop. The only cards in circulation are convention promos, priced entirely on speculation eleven months ahead of release.
