Riftbound Booster Box EV (September 2026): Is a Box Worth Opening?

Riftbound booster box EV by set, updated September 10, 2026: Origins' cushion is down to 2%, no other box clears break-even, and we open up where the EV comes from.

No Riftbound box is meaningfully worth opening today. As of September 10, 2026, Origins is the only one above water at all — $268.30 to buy against $272.56 of Cardlogs Box EV, or 102% — and that cushion was 8% three weeks ago. Unleashed reads 86%, Spiritforged 71%, Vendetta 69%.

Riftbound — the League of Legends TCG by Riot Games — now has four fully priced main sets. This edition does something the previous ones did not: it opens up the EV number itself, slot by slot, and shows which single card each set's math is leaning on.

What is Cardlogs Box EV?

Cardlogs Box EV is the expected market value of the cards inside one sealed booster box, computed from per-box pull odds and current single prices — TCG EV uses TCGplayer prices, CM EV uses Cardmarket prices, both refreshed nightly. It answers one question: at today's prices, what is the average box worth once opened?

A correction on that definition, carried in this article since July. We described those odds as "official pull rates". They are not, and our own Vendetta pull-rate study says so plainly: Riot publishes pack structure, not per-rarity percentages. Cardlogs Box EV uses community-derived per-box odds read off the Origins pull-rate breakdown — 48 Rare, 6 Epic and 2 Alt Art hits per 24-pack box, one Showcase per 3 boxes, one Signed Showcase per 30 — applied to every set. Two independent checks say the transfer holds for the newer sets: Vendetta openers report 2–3 alt arts per box against our 2, and roughly one Overnumber per 3 boxes against our one Showcase per 3.

It is an average, not a promise. EV includes every slot in the box priced at market; it excludes grading upside, selling fees, shipping, your time, and any future price movement.

Which Riftbound box has the best EV right now?

Origins, and only just. As of September 10, 2026:

According to Cardlogs market data, no Riftbound set returns more than $1.02 of expected pull value per dollar of box price as of September 10, 2026. A month ago one set returned $1.08 and the spread ran 31 points; today it runs 33 points but the whole distribution has shifted down — the top of it is at break-even instead of 8% above it.

The move came from the box side on every set. Three of the four boxes are more expensive than in August while three of the four EVs are lower or flat.

What changed since August 18?

Boxes went up, expected contents did not. The middle column below is from our September Riftbound market watch, so the path is visible rather than just the endpoints.

The story of the last three weeks is Unleashed and Vendetta, and it is over. Both boxes ran hard through late August — Unleashed's weekly TCGplayer buckets read $157, $159, $167, $186, $193 across August, Vendetta's $136, $144, $155, $170, $175 — and both then stopped dead: $193 → $194 and $175 → $176 in the two weeks to September 7. The ratios have been flat to the point since September 3. Whatever repriced those two boxes finished doing it.

Origins and Spiritforged did not trend at all. Origins' weekly buckets ran $301, $255, $292, $277, $259, $268 — a $46 range with no direction, which is a thin book quoting itself, not a market moving.

What did the August edition get wrong?

One call, and it was the confident one.

Wrong: "Vendetta boxes are down 5.1% from their $151.95 preorder peak, which is the normal post-launch supply arrival." They were down, and then they were not. The Vendetta box is $175.92 today — 22% above where we wrote that, and 16% above the preorder peak we called a peak. Supply did not land the way the previous three launches taught us to expect; the box tracked Unleashed upward instead. The forecast under it — that the ratio would sit below break-even — held at 69%, but for the opposite reason to the one we gave.

Right, and worth more than the number it came with: the caveat on Origins. We wrote that an 8% cushion "is smaller than a single bad pull, smaller than seller fees" and told you to read 108% as "no longer a bad idea", not as an edge. Three weeks later that cushion is 2%. The caveat aged better than the figure, which is the pattern on every thin sealed book we have measured.

Right: the US sealed premium, and it now has a clock on it. August found a 20–22% American premium on the three settled sets and none on Vendetta, and called it an aftermarket supply artifact rather than a pricing policy. Vendetta has since grown one: 12% as of today, at six weeks old. The premium is a function of a set's age, and we can now say roughly how long it takes to appear.

Unresolved, with an exit condition: we said Radiance's launch-week ratio would land below box price on four launches of evidence. Radiance releases October 23, 2026 and has no singles in any feed, so this resolves in the November edition or not at all.

Where does a Riftbound box's EV actually come from?

This is the part no EV table shows, and it changes how you read every number above. Each rarity contributes its per-box hit count multiplied by that rarity's average price. Origins, as of September 10, 2026:

Two slots you will not see in most boxes carry 46.0% of Origins' EV. That share is the single best measure of how lottery-shaped a set is, and it varies more than the headline ratio does: Origins 46.0%, Spiritforged 55.1%, Unleashed 57.4%, Vendetta 69.4%.

Read that alongside the ratio and Vendetta's 69% stops looking like a mild disappointment. Nearly seven-tenths of what a Vendetta box is theoretically worth sits in slots that miss in most boxes, and the bulk that fills every box is worth almost nothing: its 45 base Rares average $0.17 against Origins' $1.40, eight times less. That, not the chase cards, is why Vendetta's EV is low.

What does a box without a chase card return?

About two in three Riftbound boxes contain no Showcase and no Signature. Priced at September 10, 2026 market values, here is what that box actually holds — and what the roughly one-in-three box with a Showcase holds:

According to Cardlogs market data, the most likely single outcome of opening a Vendetta box at September 10, 2026 prices is about $37 of cards from a $176 box. The most likely outcome for Spiritforged is $66 from $209. Only Origins keeps more than half its cost in the no-chase case, and only Unleashed — because of one card, below — pays for itself when the Showcase slot does hit.

That gap between the median box and the average box is the entire argument for reading EV as a population statistic. Across fifty boxes the average converges on our table. Across one, it does not.

Which single card carries the most Box EV?

Baron Nashor, by a distance — and this is where the cross-venue screen earns its keep.

One card supplies a fifth of Unleashed's Box EV, and it is the most solidly priced number in Riftbound: Cardmarket converts to $2,527 and eBay's sold median prints $2,500 to the dollar. The three most expensive cards in the game are the opposite. Ahri - Inquisitive asks $6,899.99 with eBay at half that; Ahri - Nine-Tailed Fox asks $6,498.69 against $4,100 sold; Kai'Sa - Daughter of the Void (Signature) asks $6,399.99 against $3,150. All three fail the 30% band we require before a price takes a ranked slot anywhere on this site.

They are also frozen. Both Ahri Signatures have printed the identical number — to the cent — every night since our August 18 edition, 23 days. A price that does not move while its own sold comps sit 35–50% lower is a listing, not a market.

Does that break the EV numbers?

No, and the arithmetic is the reassuring part. We recomputed every set's Box EV substituting the eBay sold median where we have one and the Cardmarket price converted at the day's rate otherwise:

The largest swing is 5 points. A $6,500 ask divided by twelve cards in its tier and thirty boxes contributes $18 to a $272 number, so even a 37% haircut on it moves Origins by less than the box price moves in a week. Spiritforged is the one that loses ground, because a third of its EV sits in the Signature slot its top card dominates.

Two caveats on that table, both ours. Vendetta's column is Cardmarket-only: none of its 246 cards carries an eBay sold price, because none has been mapped to a PriceCharting product on our side yet — a Cardlogs coverage gap we named in September's market watch, not evidence Vendetta does not sell. And across all of Riftbound we now count 914 cards with an eBay sold price, down from 941 on August 17; that is a number about our pipeline, not about the market.

Is a Vendetta box worth opening — and is 69% even right?

Not worth opening, and 69% is probably too low. This is the clearest limitation in our own metric, so here it is with a size on it.

Vendetta introduced the Crystal Rose (SP) tier — six cards, VEN-SP1 to VEN-SP6, asking $307.29 in total on TCGplayer today, led by Ahri, Inquisitive at $102.30. Cardlogs Box EV assigns that tier no pull rate at all, so it contributes exactly $0. Our own Vendetta pull-rate study puts Crystal Rose at 0.43–0.64 per box from two independent routes (counted box breaks and Riot's own statement that they appear as often as other alt arts). Net of the alt-art slot they displace, that is $20–$30 of missing EV, which would put Vendetta at 81–87% rather than 69%.

That does not make the box worth opening — 87% is still a loss — but it does mean Vendetta is closer to Unleashed than our table says, and the correction is one we owe the number rather than the market. No other Riftbound set has an unpriced tier: Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed have no SP cards, so their ratios stand as printed.

The rest of Vendetta at six weeks is the standard launch shape. The box is $175.92 and the six-box case is $1,068.12 — $178.02 per box, so the case saves nothing.

Is an Origins box worth opening?

On the numbers, marginally, and it is a weaker yes than last month. $268.30 against $272.56 of EV is $1.02 back per dollar before variance and fees, and seller fees alone run 10–15%.

What changed is entirely on the EV side: Origins' box price is within $1 of where it was on August 18 while its EV fell 5.9%. Its two Signatures are the frozen asks above, its Showcase tier averages $152.74, and the Ahri - Nine-Tailed Fox (Overnumbered) that heads that tier is one of the better-corroborated prices in the set at $388.94 with eBay at $388.45.

Origins' saving grace is the one in the no-chase table: 55% of the box price is in the slots that always hit. That is the highest of any Riftbound set and roughly double Vendetta's. If you open Origins and miss everything, you keep more than half your money.

Why is Spiritforged still the worst box?

Because it is now the only set that gets worse when you check its prices against a second venue. Spiritforged carries a $209.01 box against a Box EV of $147.70 — 71% — and 66% on second-venue prices, the lowest number in this article.

The mechanism is the same as ever and has not shifted in two months: a sealed premium on a set whose mid-tier is too cheap to carry the box. Its 60 base Rares average $0.50. Its EV leans 55.1% on the two chase slots, and 32.3% on the Signature slot alone — the highest concentration of any set — headed by the $6,899.99 Ahri that eBay prices at $3,500. Ahri - Inquisitive (Overnumbered) at $678 with eBay at $683 is the tier's honest anchor, and it is one card in a 36-card Showcase pool.

Do the Cardmarket numbers agree?

They disagree more than last month, and in a way that is now clearly about the boxes rather than the cards. As of September 10, 2026:

Every European ratio is higher than its American twin, on all four sets, by 6 to 32 points. That is not four different findings; it is one, and it is the US sealed premium seen from the other end. At the September 9, 2026 ECB rate of $1.1652 per euro:

Unleashed is the one to watch: a 21% premium in August is 34% today, because the American box added $34 while the European one did not follow. Spiritforged went the other way, 20% to 13%. And Vendetta, at exact parity in August, now carries a 12% premium at six weeks old — the fastest any Riftbound set has grown one.

One practical note for American buyers who were going to open anyway: the Unleashed six-box case is $1,078.46, or $179.74 per box against $193.90 for a single box — 7.3% cheaper, the only Riftbound case that beats its own box price per unit today. Origins' case runs $271.75 per box, 1.3% above the single-box price.

What about Radiance on October 23?

Radiance, the fifth Riftbound set, is dated October 23, 2026 and is quoted only in Europe: a Cardmarket preorder box at €132.08 and a case at €813.24 as of September 10, 2026, both within a euro or two of where they opened in mid-August. Re-checked today, TCGplayer still carries no tracked Radiance product in our feed, and our catalog holds zero Radiance cards.

There is no EV yet and there cannot be — Box EV needs real market prices on singles. On four launches of evidence, expect its launch-week ratio to land below box price. Cardlogs will compute and publish Radiance Box EV once its singles carry market prices, not before.

Should you open or keep Riftbound boxes sealed?

The data-driven answer as of September 10, 2026: no Riftbound box has a case for opening that survives seller fees. Origins is the only one above water and it is above by 2%. Hold everything.

The sealed side of that trade got stronger this month for a reason worth naming: the boxes that moved, moved up. Unleashed +21% and Vendetta +22% in three weeks, on top of August's run, while the singles that fill those boxes stood still. Sealed appreciation is doing exactly what its advocates claim right now — which is also precisely why the EV ratios look as bad as they do. The two facts are the same fact.

What would change the verdict is the singles catching up, not the boxes falling. Watch the Showcase tier averages in the decomposition table: Unleashed's $199.16 and Origins' $152.74 are the numbers that would have to move for any of this to flip.

Where this data comes from

Cardlogs aggregates prices nightly from TCGplayer, Cardmarket and eBay sold listings (via PriceCharting) across more than 1,400 tracked Riftbound cards — 1,467 counted on TCGplayer, 1,385 on Cardmarket and 914 on eBay in the September 9, 2026 market-cap computation — plus PSA and BGS population data.

Cardlogs Box EV is recomputed nightly per set as the sum, over each rarity slot, of that slot's per-box hit count times the average market price of the cards in it. Per-box hit counts are community-derived from the Origins pull-rate breakdown (48 Rare, 6 Epic, 2 Alt Art, one Showcase per 3 boxes, one Signed Showcase per 30) and applied to every set; Riot publishes pack structure but not per-rarity odds. Overnumbered chase prints are excluded from the ordinary Rare and Epic averages, and Vendetta's Crystal Rose (SP) tier currently carries no odds entry — the understatement is sized in the Vendetta section above. Cross-venue checks use the September 9, 2026 ECB rate of $1.1652 per euro; a card is corroborated when a second venue prints within 30% of its TCGplayer price.

The Cardlogs Market Cap Index — our chain-linked measure of same-card price movement, built so new releases never distort the figure — stands at 143.41 on TCGplayer, 183.48 on Cardmarket and 165.42 on eBay for Riftbound as of September 9, 2026. Measured against our August 17 edition figures, that is −1.8% on TCGplayer, +9.3% on Cardmarket and −2.3% on eBay over the three weeks. We quote the change since August 17 rather than a 30-day figure on purpose: our TCGplayer series carries a disclosed non-market step on August 13, 2026 (link factor 1.207), when the logged series moved from TCGplayer's aggregate market price to the live sold-based estimate, and it does not age out of the 30-day window until around September 12. Both endpoints above sit after that step, so the comparison is clean.
