What is Cardlogs Box EV?

Cardlogs Box EV is the expected market value of the cards inside one sealed booster box, computed from official pull rates and current single prices — TCG EV uses TCGplayer prices, CM EV uses Cardmarket prices, both refreshed nightly. It answers one question: at today's prices, what is the average box worth once opened?

It is an average, not a promise. EV includes every slot in the box priced at market; it excludes grading upside, selling fees, shipping, your time, and any future price movement. Most importantly, box openings have brutal variance — more on that below.

Which Riftbound box has the best EV right now?

Unleashed, and it isn't close. As of July 24, 2026:

According to Cardlogs market data, Unleashed is the only Riftbound set whose Box EV exceeds its box price as of July 24, 2026 — $169.88 of expected value against a $126.20 box on TCGplayer prices, with the Cardmarket-based EV of $150.85 confirming the gap from a second marketplace.

Why is Unleashed EV above its box price?

Because singles repriced upward much faster than sealed. Unleashed box prices drifted down to $126.20 in the months after its May 8 launch — the normal post-release supply glut — while its chase cards went vertical during July's market-wide rally.

The set's defined chase, Baron Nashor UNL-238 — the Ultimate-rarity pull at roughly 1 in 42 boxes — is up 63% in a month to $2,000. Scorn of the Moon is up 97% to $1,699.99, and the showcase tier behind them moved in sympathy. Is an Origins box worth opening?

Origins is the textbook break-even box: $257.42 to buy, $252.97 of TCG-based EV ($245.00 CM-based) as of July 24, 2026 — about 98 cents back per dollar, before variance and fees. On expectation, opening one is a wash.

The nuance is why the box costs $257.42 at all: Origins boxes have nearly doubled from their ~$130 launch MSRP era, propelled by the launch-window supply shortage and the set's status as the game's first printing (#3 bestselling TCG set of 2025). The market has, in effect, already priced the EV into the sealed product. Opening one today is trading a certain $257 asset for a lottery ticket averaging $253 — defensible only if you specifically want the Ahri - Nine-Tailed Fox chase experience.

Why is Spiritforged EV so far below its box price?

Spiritforged carries an $172.05 box price against a Cardlogs Box EV of just $138.98 (TCG) / $116.22 (CM) as of July 24, 2026 — roughly 81 cents of expected pulls per dollar. It is the clearest "do not open" in Riftbound right now.

The gap is a sealed premium: collectors are paying for the box, not the average contents. Spiritforged's top end is genuinely elite — Ahri - Inquisitive (Signature) is the most expensive card in the game at $4,999.89 — but at ~1 in 720 packs, a Signature only shows up about once per 30 boxes, and Spiritforged's mid-tier singles are too cheap to carry the EV in its absence. Historical footnote: this set's displays outsold every individual Magic product in February 2026, and that demand has stuck to sealed more than to singles.

What does Box EV include — and what does it miss?

Box EV includes every expected pull priced at current market value, weighted by official pull rates. It excludes seller fees (typically 10–15%), grading outcomes, sealed appreciation, and — the big one — variance: the median box returns well below EV, because rare chase cards carry the average.

Concretely: in a set where a ~$2,000 chase appears in 1 of 42 boxes, that single card contributes roughly $48 to every box's EV — value that 41 of 42 openers never see. According to Cardlogs market data, that is exactly Unleashed's structure: strip Baron Nashor out and the EV cushion narrows sharply. Read EV as a population statistic. If you open one box, your realistic outcome is the median (below EV); only across many boxes does the average converge to the number in our table.

Should you open or keep Riftbound boxes sealed?

The data-driven answer as of July 24, 2026: open Unleashed if you're comfortable with variance, hold Origins, and don't open Spiritforged at all. A 135% EV ratio is the only mathematical case for cracking boxes in Riftbound today — and even it delivers below-EV outcomes to most individual boxes.

Sealed holding has its own math: Origins boxes roughly doubling in nine months is the sealed-appreciation case in one line. But it is backward-looking, and every new set (a new box roughly quarterly) competes with old sealed for the same dollars.

What about Vendetta on July 31?

Vendetta (166 cards) launches globally July 31, 2026, with boxes pre-selling at $128.97 as of July 24. There is no EV yet — Box EV needs real market prices on singles, which won't exist until launch-week sales land. Cardlogs will compute and publish Vendetta Box EV within days of that data arriving.

The pattern from three prior launches: launch-window EV tends to sit below box price (hype prices the sealed first, singles find their level later), then the ratio drifts as supply and the meta settle. Vendetta is also the game's first fully synchronized worldwide release, which should make its TCG-vs-CM EV split cleaner than earlier sets'.
